Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail
My piece for Bayfield will focus on the RITUALS of caring for dogs, their companionship, daily walks and how dogs anchor us to our surroundings. Here at Bayfield, there is a long history of dog ownership with many marked graves around the chapel in remembrance. I would like to focus on the three pedestal (plinth) graves remembering Countess, Nimble (1904), and Desma. My idea is to use discarded plastic plant labels to assemble coats for the dogs, making a connection between daily dog walks and the great outdoors. I used my visit to take detailed measurements of the chest, neck and back of the dog sculptures, which will enable me to experiment with the installation design and pattern. Moving forward I hope to find out more history from Bayfield relating to Countess, Nimble (1904), and Desma.
